Submissions

Henbane Press is a dark fiction magazine, which will be available online and in print.

Published annually in October, Henbane Press reads submissions year round.

Our theme for the 2024 issue is ‘The Witching Hour’ and we are especially looking for submissions that are themed around witchcraft and the occult.

Genres we accept are as follows:

Flash Fiction

Poetry

Art

We are very open-minded at Henbane Press, so we are open to receiving submissions that include sexual content, but we ask that it is tasteful, not vulgar.

Please do not send us work that is: homophobic, transphobic, racist, ableist, sexist, discriminatory or contains child abuse. Please do not waste our time by submitting anything written using AI.

Submission Guidelines

Please send all submissions to henbanepress@gmail.com with the subject ‘Submissions: Henbane Press’ and include a short, third person bio with your cover letter.

Please title the file of your submission with your name and then the name of the work. e.g. John Smith The Haunted Castle.

We are happy to receive simultaneous submissions, but please promptly withdraw your submission if it is accepted elsewhere. Please only send previously unpublished work.

Fiction & Poetry

We’re looking for flash fiction (up to 1,500 words), short fiction (up to 5,000 words) and poetry of any length. Please submit no more than 1 short story, 3 flashes or 5 poems per submission. For flash fiction or poetry, please send these all in one document.

Please send your submission attached as a WORD document, including your name and the word count. Please do not send submissions in the body of the email.

Art

Please send no more than 5 samples of your work per submission. Selected art work will be featured in each issue and one piece will be selected as cover art.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer feedback on rejected submissions.

At this time we are unable to offer payment for accepted submissions, however this is something we are hoping to change in the future.
